A smooth, blended shake is an easy way to add calories, protein, and key nutrients. The calcium in yogurt supports strong bones, while iron from blackstrap molasses and spinach helps the body carry oxygen through the blood.

Getting enough calcium matters throughout a lifetime, since bone health is an ongoing concern as children with Rett syndrome grow into adulthood.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup plain whole-milk Greek yogurt
  • ½ frozen banana
  • 1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon blackstrap molasses
  • ½ cup fresh baby spinach
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
  • Ice cubes, as desired

Instructions

  1. Add the whole milk, Greek yogurt, frozen banana, peanut butter, blackstrap molasses, spinach, and ground flaxseed to a blender.
  2. Blend on high for 45 to 60 seconds, until completely smooth.
  3. Add a few ice cubes and blend again briefly for a colder, thicker texture, if desired.
  4. Pour into a cup and serve immediately.
